Boat Condition & Maintenance Surveys

A condition survey is designed for existing owners who want a clear, independent picture of their vessel’s current state. It is not focused on a purchase decision or an insurer’s requirements — it is practical information to help you manage and maintain your boat with greater confidence.

When a condition survey is the right choice

This type of survey is particularly useful if you are planning maintenance work or a refit and want to understand the full scope before committing, if you have recently acquired a vessel and want an independent baseline assessment of its condition, if your boat has been in storage and you want to confirm it is fit to return to use, or if you simply want the reassurance of a periodic independent check carried out by an experienced professional.

What the survey covers

Depending on the vessel and the scope agreed, a condition survey will typically cover structural condition, hull and deck, visible signs of wear or deterioration, key systems and equipment, maintenance priorities and practical recommendations for remedial or planned work.

This includes an external inspection of machinery covering engines, fuel systems, hoses and exhaust, a visual inspection of electrical systems including wiring, batteries and switchboards, and an assessment of plumbing, bilge pumps and seacocks.

Where relevant, osmosis checking and hull thickness measurements can also be carried out. The findings are set out in a clear written report, typically running to between 10 and 15 pages and supported by photographs, to help you plan and prioritise effectively.
